Friday

Congratulations! You've made it to the end of Week Three!

You can see that we've added a lot to this blog lately - have a look at the links on the sidebar! From now on, if you want to know how to do something, look to see if we've written instructions here before you ask us.

Today we're going to show you how to edit pictures - crop, compress, resize your pictures. If you have a camera, you can use our card reader to transfer the pictures you have taken to the student drive (please save them in your own folder or in the 'shared pictures' folder). Once you've done that, follow the 'How to Edit a Picture' link to compress the photo, which will make it easier to upload, then 'How to Upload a Photo' to upload it to your blog. Alternatively, you can use your photo in any of your projects, of course!

Apart from that, continue working on:
  • Your Blogs: Click 'Blog Requirements' to see what else you need to do.
  • Your Projects: Remember that you only have time to type and format in the computer room. You have to plan or write all the text in the classroom before you come to the computer room.
  • Your Class Dictionary: We've decided to present a prize for the best class dictionary on the final Friday night, so encourage your whole class to work hard on collecting words (look at this blog to find lots and lots of computer terms!) and writing their definitions (and remember you can use your definitions to make a crossword, as well!)

And as always:

Remember to Have Fun!

How to edit a picture in MS Picture Manager

  1. Use 'my computer' to find the file that you want to edit.
  2. Select the picture, but don't open it yet.
  3. Click on 'file' then 'open with' and then 'Microsoft Office Picture Manager'.
  4. The picture and the progam will open. At the top, you can select 'edit picture' to compress, crop, resize etc.

How to Upload Pictures in Blogger

  1. First, make sure the picture that you want to upload is compressed, so the file is not too big. You can also crop it or edit it in MS Picture Manager.
  2. Sign in to blogger as usual.
  3. Start a New Post (or edit an old one).
  4. Click on the tiny picture of a picture above the text box where you usually write your post .
  5. In the new window that appears, click on "Browse", and find the file where the picture you want is saved.
  6. When you have chosen your picture, click on the blue "upload image" button.
  7. Wait for your picture to be uploaded, then click "Done"
  8. Remember to click on the orange "Publish Post" when you have finished uploading your picture and typing your entry!

The End of Week One!

1. Have you survived the first week? Have you been good? Have you spoken English all the time? Have you made some new friends? Tell us about them! Today's blog posts should look back over the week and talk about what you have learnt here in all your classes - and outside the classroom too. Everyone should write their OWN post today! If you have photos, we can also upload them to your blog, and we'll look at google photo manager as well - it's a good place to store and share your photos, and it uses the same username and password as your blogger account.
2. While we're looking at photos, let's upload a profile picture of the people in your group as well. I have my camera here if you need me to take one for you.
3. We also want every blog to have a sitemeter put on it today - go to this website and sign up for the Free Basic sitemeter. Make sure you use an email adress you can check here and now. Next go to 'manager' on the sitemeter site and find the instructions for making your sitemeter visible on your blog.
4. Finally, we are going to do something with a different program. With one or two people from your group, use Word to create and print an advertisement for your blog that we can put up outside the dining hall. You need to put on some photos or pictures, your names, and the name and url of your blog, so that people know where to find it. Make it as colourful and interesting as possible to show me how much you know about word and also so that people want to come to your blog! Lets see who gets the most hits on their sitemeter!

Pictures?

Hi Guys!
How was your excursion? Did you take lots of pictures? Today I want to be able to put some of them on your blogs, but we have lots else to do first, and only one card reader, so please be patient!
Today everyone must write an individual post about the last two days. It's been a busy two days so there is a lot to write about. You started workshops, had an optional excursion, and the excursion to London.
Today each blog must also have a link list added. You can look at the blog post I wrote for yesterday's class below for some more instructions.

Enjoy!
